Week of 19th- 23rd September

Last week in English Students did an assignment on persuasive writing and features of non-fiction texts.
In maths students revised 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.  They also practised BODMAS in groups.
In unit of inquiry, students brainstormed about the action they would take and the tools they would use for their action. They completed their summative assessment and began working on their action. They tuned into the new unit on civilization with the help of a movie 'night at the meuseum'. It was followed by a short brainstorming session on what kind of people they saw in the movie.

Below are some photographs of students engaged in various learning engagements:

Week of Sept5th- Sept9th

Last week in English students comprehended phrases and their usage. They highlighted phrases and did role plays on different phrases.
In writing they also did their English assessment.
In reading they understood the features of non fiction books: Title, subtitles, page numbers, diagrams, pictures, captions and sequence.

In Maths students practised splitting strategies and number bonds.
Students also inquired into the concept of BODMAS. They were given different equations and each group was asked to solve them. The equations were interchanged among groups.
Each equation had come up with a few variety of answers. Students had to reflect on the question-

Below are some photographs of the above:

What do we do to come to a common answer?

Students felt that rules are required to solve equations with a variety of operations.

They also tried to understand which operations are stronger and which are weaker?
They came to a conclusion that stronger operations are those which can change a number to a great extent in one attempt. Weaker operations are those which take longer time to change a number.
Below are some photographs of students inquiring into strong and weak numbers:

In unit of inquiry students inquired into the positive and negative effect of media and were engaged in their second formative assessment.
